  • The past 3 years have felt like living through 2001 again three more times but without the solace of new Samurai Jack epidodes

That's the whole thing, tho, is that 9/11 was what it was because it was supposed to be a singular event. Regular American citizens have always been remarkably well insulated from blowback, and it was the only direct foreign attack on American soil since WW2 (that got any press, at least). It blew a lot of people's minds and fundamentally altered our shithole country because These Things Just Don't Happen Here in the cozy-wozy imperial core.

Now it's 20 years later and we can say with some certainty that, if a brand new 9/11 happened every month, after a while the government would've been like, "We're losing money here, so people in tall office buildings can start going back to work next week. Some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make."

(4:08 min) - Paul reflects on the drug bust and on his time in prison in Japan including the imagined accents of his raised-in-Japan children, communicating with the other prisoners through brand names and winning at being the tallest through 'his great western height'. 😂

( Reminds me: Ray Connolly, who read Paul's Japanese Jailbird text, also remembers another height based competition introduced by Paul to the other prisoners. He would have been kingpin in so time.)

dare i say rank the john eras (however you want to define them) in order of hotness?

  • Oo anon I would love to.

    10. 1968 & 1969 John: This John doesn’t do it for me as much, but it’s still John so he’s still hot.

    9. 1970s John: Same for this era. This John always made me sad but again he’s still looking fine.

    8. 1967 John: We know Paul loved John in this era. So I do too.

    7. 1980 John: These sunglasses were SUCH A LOOK

    6. India John: Yes this is different than 1967 John cause I make the rules and this is the only time I really liked him with facial hair

    image
    image

    5. Teddy Boy John: Much like Paul, I would have thrown it all away for teddy boy John

    image

    4. 1965 (emo boy hair) John: Sometimes the hair was a bit too emo but of course John always manages to make this look good

    3. Help John: John was my first crush and the movies had a lot to do with that so they both get their own era on this list

    2. AHDN/1964 John: I really had a hard time with this and 1966 John because I love his whole vibe and look during this time and in this movie but god damn how do you choose

    image
    1. 1966 John: Ultimately i went with this for #1 because red suit and some of my other favs are from this year as well

  • “John phoned me once to try and get the Beatles back together again, after we’d broken up. And I wasn’t for it, because I thought that we’d come too far and I was too deeply hurt by it all. I thought, ‘Nah, what’ll happen is that we’ll get together for another three days and all hell will break loose again. Maybe we just should leave it alone.’”

Paul McCartney, Interview for Club Sandwich, November 1st 1995

  • HOLY SHIT

  • It’s interesting (aka telling) that all of them (minus George, I think) had this notion over that decade before John was murdered. The love was obv still there. It would have been so cool if they all wanted to get back together at the same time.

    Sigh

  • In 1973, George said that one of the reasons they finally got rid of Allen Klein was because as long as he was there, Paul wouldn't play with the rest of them, so I don't think he was always against it either.

I always find it curious when people frame this era as "John was too badly hurt by Paul to want to get back together with him" when everything we actually know points in the other direction. It's just that, for a variety of reasons, Paul rarely came out and said so.

  • I also get the same impression. That’s not certain, because all of them (or most of them) said I think that at certain point or antother they all wanted to get back together, but never the four of them at the same time... but I still get the impression that after being the one who least wanted the Beatles to break up, once they DID, during the seventies Paul was the one least likely to agree to do it again.

This interview from 1979 also suggests the same thing. The question starts at 9:07 and he says something like ''If all of the other three are REALLY wild and keen to do it, there's a very slim chance I'd agree''. (the whole interview has interesting moments, watch it if you haven't!)

  • Paul is the bedrock of the band. Whether they were justified or not, I think having to sue the other three, enduring a lot of public humiliation at their hands, having Lennon Remembers ("Lennon Regrets") dropped on Paul's head, being accused of being inhumane by his best friend/ex, being driven out of the studio crying because John said something to Paul that made him snap (and Paul never recorded with the Beatles ever again), the way they ganged up on him. Who would want to walk back into that viper's pit when there's no guarantee it wouldn't all happen again? Was Paul wrong? Oh please.

John's multi million dollar hate machine that he weaponized against Paul is not a replacement for Paul as a Beatle. The Beatles as a band is completely contingent on Paul. If he says the Beatles are done, then they are done. And he was right to do it.

  • I want to go to this exact point and run around it saying “I’m in Sweden!” I’m in Finland!” “I’m in Norway!” until I get tired

i aspire to great things in life

  • According to Google Maps, that point is in the middle of a small lake.

  • So we’ll do it in January when it’s frozen.

  • actually that’s why they’ve helpfully dropped a big-ass cement block with a bridge surrounding it in the middle of the lake: for the express purpose of doing what OP aspires to do

  • there’s so much beauty in the world.

  • i just saw a trans dude like My Age say some shit like "im a trans man and im bisexual so theoretically i could date women but then i would be subjecting them to having to date a man and i dong want anyone to suffer that much" and ive seen so many similar videos on my fyp from trans boys so if ur a trans boy reading this i love u its okay to be a man. ur not a monster ur great transitioning wont make you abusive or anything i promise its okay to be a man

  • “Being a man makes you Contaminated In Some Way and women having romantic contact with men are Suffering” is radfem koolaid.
